Interview

17.03.2010 – Wargaming.net im Interview

GXP: What new units are included?

Well, in Order of War the player had more than 70 different units to operate with - various types of infantry (riflemen, machine-gunners, paratroopers, naval squads etc…), armor (legendary King Tigers! and Pershings! are favs among our fans), self-propelled guns, field and rocket artillery, air squadrons and many more. All these allowed him to create a mobile and flexible army and provided ample gameplay opportunities. That’s why we decided not to expand Challenge unit set but rather focused on enhancing the balance in cooperation with our community. We launched a beta-test, collected feedback and implemented certain balance tweaks to ensure better performance.

GXP:
Is a new singleplayer campaign also available or maybe the possibility to construct buildings?

As I’ve already stated above Order of War: Challenge is a 100% multiplayer game so there gonna be no singleplayer component. Those interested in taking part in Normandy Landings or Operation Cobra should try the original Order of War that had two campaigns each spanning 9 missions.

GXP:

Are there still some points you as developer want solve better?

Of course, there are… and there are lots of them … First off, we work on tweaking the reinforcement system. Right now new units appear on the map immediately after we press a button. We want to introduce a certain “freeze” times for reinforcements that would be different for different types of units. This would make the game more interesting and unpredictable … Secondly, we also consider the option of uniting two squads (say, infantry and tanks) into one group that would gain new combat characteristics e.g. increased defense abilities and firepower, but decreased mobility. We also plan to change the role of aviation in the game, assign specific zones of action for attack planes and bombers, and introduce reconnaissance aircrafts. I can continue talking about “what should be improved” for hours but I’m afraid our readers will get bored by my game designer’s bla-bla-bla so I’d rather stop here.

GXP:

How long will we have to wait for “Order of War 2”?

Hmm… a good question… But unfortunately I cannot give any particular date now. We realize the high potential the game has and will definitely continue working on its further development. Still I’m not even sure about the genre or setting of the sequel as we are always ready to experiment and are open to new ideas.

GXP:

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

I’d like to thank you for interesting questions and your readers for the time they spent on reading this interview and remind you that Order of War: Challenge is already available on Steam. Note that the owners of the original game will get it for FREE. One more thing, Wargaming.net would like to award GamingXP readers that think up the best Order of War: Challenge slogans with 5 activation codes for the game. So good luck and let the smartest win!

GXP:

Thanks for the interview!
